Group Descriptions

Royal Swimming offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of Royal Swimming to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Novice 1 

In order to be in Novice 1, a swimmer must be able to complete one length of the pool on their stomach without stopping and the same on their back. In this group, focus will be on body position, proper kick for all 4 competitive strokes and basic arm pull for free style and backstroke.


Novice 2 

In order to be in Novice 2, a swimmer must be able to swim 50 yards on their stomach without stopping and the same on their back. In this group, focus will be on body position, proper kick and arm pull for all 4 competitive strokes.


Intermediate 

Swimmers should have a legal kick for all 4 strokes. Swimmers should be able to swim 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Focus in this group will be stroke refinement for all 4 strokes, turns and starts. Swimmers will learn to read the pace clock and start to work on executing swim and kick sets.


Junior 1 

To be in Junior 1, swimmers need to have 4 legal strokes, legal turns and be able to read a pace clock. Focus is continuing stroke development while incorporating longer and faster sets.


Junior 2 

Junior 2 is a continuation of Junior 1 where athletes are training to qualify for championship meets.


Senior Conditioning 

Senior conditioning is for athletes 13 and over who are looking for less of a commitment than the senior group. Practice is an hour and half with focus on continuing stroke development and training for championship meets.


Senior 

Senior group is for athletes 13 and over who are looking for a greater commitment. Practices are 2 hours. Athletes are training for higher level championship meets.
